We shot
video of the Pershing SquareNew announcement press conference and Q&A session.
At 24:04, Kim Cooper of the Pershing Square Restoration Society asks what Councilman Huizar would say to the 1500 people who have signed the petition asking the city to restore John Parkinson's 1910 park design, and if that design will be included in the competition. The answer appears to be yes, with the winning design selected by a popular vote.
[2024 update: Huizar was lying to us about
letting the public vote for Parkinson's design, the funds raised by his in-house nonprofit were
not made available to Rec and Park for Pershing Square restoration work, and a decade after this press conference, the disgraced councilmember began serving
13 years in Federal prison for public corruption.]
